Learn to fence with GYWFC

New fencers are always welcome at Great Yarmouth & Waveney Fencing Club! Whether you want to take up a new hobby, compete against the best or just try something different – we’re happy to start you on your fencing journey!

Our club provides everything you’ll need to learn and continue fencing. There’s no rush for you to buy your own kit! We offer regular intake nights throughout the year where similar ages (junior vs senior) can learn to fence in a small group setting. Allowing all participants to receive personalised tuition from one of our club coaches.

All training takes place on Thursday evenings from 7.30 pm onwards at Ormiston Denes Community Sports Centre, Lowestoft. Minimum age is 7. See below for more information and the dates of our next Intake Nights

What do I need to bring?

All you’ll need is sensible sports clothing. Indoor shoes, jogging bottoms, T-shirt etc. Please note for safety reasons we can’t allow you to fence in shorts or jeans. We also recommend you bring a drink to every session + a towel in hot weather. Everything else will be provided!

Fancy a taster?

Not sure you want to commit to a full beginners course? We also offer 1 hr taster sessions charged at:

Juniors (aged 7-14) – £7

Seniors (aged 15+) – £10

What will I learn?

Our courses are designed to give participants an introduction to fencing. They won’t make you experts but will introduce you to the basics of foil fencing and give you an experience of everything the sport has to offer. In addition to taught actions / exercises you’ll also have plenty of time to practice what you learn in matches against your course mates and more experienced fencers.

Who will I learn with?

You’ll learn as part of a small group of similarly aged participants. Grouping you in this way helps to keep the sessions engaging for everyone and allows our coaches to tailor the content to you. However, should you wish to learn as a family / specific group, this can be arranged.
